What should the temp in the tank be?

i have a ram cichlid and i heard that raising the temp in my tank would help inhance its color. My tank is a 55 gallon and i dont have a mate for my male ram yet. The temp is at 79 degrees f what should it be and what is a safe maximum temp for rams guppies and tetra?
