I really need some boy problem help...does he like me, or is he just lonely from his breakup???

Ok, so my guy friend of 2 yrs has been acting weird lately. We always kinda flirted, but kept things mostly platonic cause he had a gf. 2months ago, the gf broke up w/ him. Last month, he's been flirting a lot, calling me just to talk, texting me at least 4-5 times a day for "homework", stares at me in cl, blushes, but rarely actually talks to me in cl. Other night he flirted a LOT during our night cl, walked w/ me to my car, then texted for 2hrs after we got home. The next day, he totally ignores me! Yesterday, he texted me once every hour! Today, he totally ignores me again!! I call & text him too...it's not like I don't flirt. Why does he switch like this? Last night, we got on chat, & we were talking, when he just stopped chatting for 40mins! I was sad. Just now, he texts w/ a hw question like nothing happend. So I told him very nicely that he should let me know if he is busy so I don't bother him. He apologized 4x. Did I do the right thing telling him? & does he like me??
